Candidate: Gilbert O. Sanders, EdD

Office: Council Representative

Candidate Statement:

My Dear OPA Colleagues:
I request your vote for the APA Council of Representatives for the term beginning January 2019.
This is a position that requires a person that is well versed and experienced with both OPA ‘s and APA’s governance, finances and current policies. I firmly believe that I have the qualifications that are best suited to be your Council Representative. I have been an APA member since 1980 and OPA since 1988. It has been my honor and pleasure to serve as the OPA section chair for three of the Associations sections, HSP, DRAT and RxP. I have served on the OPA board twice from 2002-2005 and from 2014-to date. I have also served as OPA President in 2017 and Chair of the OPA PAC from 2015 to date. I have additionally served as an APA Federal Advocacy Coordinator since 1998 (representing APA divisions 18 and 55 as well as the Alaska Psychological Association). Further, I have served as the Treasurer of APA Division 18, and President of Division 55 of APA. I was also elected President-elect in 1999 of the Alaska Psychological Association. I have also served 3 terms on APA's Committee of State Leaders. These positions have provided me with unique experiences and knowledge of both APA and OPA and how to best represent OPA and you on APA’s Council of Representatives. I pledge to make regular and timely reports concerning APA Council activities to OPA and you the OPA members via the OPA listserv.
