Candidate: Lana Lee Hawkins, PhD

Office: Council Representative

Candidate Statement:

It is with great pleasure that I submit my interest in serving as Alberta’s representative on APA’s Council of Representatives, following nomination from the Psychologist’s Association of Alberta.

For the past nine years, I have held the position of Provincial Senior Practice Lead for Psychology for Alberta Health Services, Canada’s largest public health care system. In my role, I provide provincial leadership to advance psychology and public welfare within the province's health system, across all areas of service and practice (e.g. acute care, inpatient/outpatient, hospital and community based, rehabilitation, etc.). Serving many functions, my role supports organizational planning and practice that aligns with and facilitates optimal use of psychology, best practice, competencies, and alignment with legal, regulatory, and ethical requirements. This role involves setting, overseeing, enacting, and supporting initiatives that advance psychology and psychology’s priorities within AHS, through leveraging collaborative relationships with our provincial regulatory body and professional association, senior AHS leaders, community partners, and psychologists.

As part of my role, I have held leadership responsibility the development and provincial implementation of a major AHS initiative to advance professional practice broadly, “Professional Practice in Action.”

I believe that the combination of my psychology training (Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from an APA/CPA accredited program) and developed knowledge, skills, and experiences obtained from my 20 years of clinical practice (which I have continued, part-time) and 9 years or Senior Psychology Professional Practice Leadership, combined with my available network would enable me to serve the Council well as representative for Alberta.
